Our Platform
The problem with existing technology education
Let's play a game ... From these 2 zoomed in images of an object, see if you can guess what the object is 🔎Once we know the big picture, we can easily make sense of the small details, but it's almost impossible to piece together the big picture from the small details.
Just like guessing the object in our game, many tech education platforms throw you straight into the weeds of code without first establishing a clear understanding of the broader landscape. They focus on the syntax, the specific commands, the "how-tos" – much like teaching the design details of the chain mechanism without first showing how the bike works as a whole, leading to a whole lot of this:
The HighLowFlow Approach
The HighLowFlow platform prioritizes understanding the big picture of tech first. By using the platform, you'll learn how and why technology works the way it does and be able to learn any new skill with ease, without getting tripped up by the finer details.
Here's how:
Cutting Edge Interactive Simulations
Our flagship feature. Step into an entirely simulated sandbox environment, from the perspective of a simulated desktop interface. In each level, take actions and complete objectives to learn the inner workings of different facets of technology.
At the heart of these simulations is the All Seeing Eye - An imaginary desktop app which lets you view the whole interconnected web of technology in the sandbox world. With the All Seeing Eye, slow down time and see how each part of this web sends and processes data and fits into the wider system, at multiple levels of abstraction.
Scenario Based Quizzes
Test and refine your new understanding using our challenging multiple choice quizzes. With thoughtful questions which frame the concepts taught in each section in a real scenario, and detailed explanations of why each answer is correct or incorrect , you'll grow in confidence and gear yourself up to tackle real world challenges.
Case Study Articles
Our expertly written articles take the fundamental concepts taught, and show how they translate to real world tech. Armed with an understanding of the rationale behind these technologies, you'll be in the best position to quickly master them and make informed choices between them in your career
Our Content Roadmap
The content taught by the platform is split up into logical modules, called Learning Paths. Learning Paths represent the larger topics and disciplines within tech, each with their own fundamental characteristics and paradigms. Learning paths are further split into Learning Steps, through which specific concepts are taught in a carefully considered order to help you build a solid, ground-up understanding. Each learning step is one of our interactive simulations, a scenario based quiz or a case study article
The following learning paths are planned for launch day:
- Core Systems: Learn about operating systems - the backbone of any modern computing device. This path teaches how operating systems process, store and organise data, and how they execute and manage programs.
- Networking and Communication: Uncover how programs talk to each other. Starting with simple communication over a wire, all the way up to how the modern internet as we know it works - you'll see how communication protocols are designed and how they operate.
- Web Technologies: Web servers, APIs, browsers; Learn how the key components of the world wide web work together to create the experience we all know and love. From the inner workings of a typical browser application to different content serving strategies - your expertise in web technologies starts here.
The following learning paths are planned for release in the months following the launch:
- The Cloud: Learn how cloud services are used to build the technology of today and tomorrow. Explore the different approaches to cloud architecture, as well as the fundamental tradeoffs which must be made in this space.
- Data Management and Analytics: Manging and using big data effectively is pivotal for many modern applications. Learn the techniques and challenges with moving, storing and analysing data at scale, and how this is done as part of wider systems.
- Cybersecurity: Protecting digital systems from misuse is an ongoing battle. In this path, gain an understanding of how hackers exploit all different kinds of systems, the techniques they use, and what can be done to stop them in their tracks.
Additional Resources
In addition to the core platform, we aim to build a community of aspiring tech experts who want to discuss our platform and support each other in their tech learning journey. We also have a blog, where you can find insightful discussions about technolology and tech career trends.
